Home Services Rooftop & Patio Turf

Some spaces will never hold a lawn. A concrete patio, a second-floor balcony, a rooftop terrace with a weight limit, a courtyard with no drainage to speak of. Turf gives all of them a green surface without soil, irrigation or structural load.

Installing over hard surfaces

Turf over concrete, pavers or decking is a different build from a ground installation. There is no excavation and no aggregate base. Instead we install a drainage layer or foam underlay that lets water reach the existing drains, then secure the turf with adhesive at the perimeter and seams.

The critical detail is that the existing surface must already drain. Turf will not fix a patio that ponds; it will hide it. We check slope and drainage before quoting, and if the substrate has a problem we tell you rather than covering it.

Weight

Turf with a foam underlay adds roughly one to two pounds per square foot — negligible against planters, furniture or people. For rooftops with documented load limits we provide the specification for your engineer or building management.

Balconies and rentals

Balcony turf can be laid loose and cut to fit rather than glued, which makes it removable at the end of a lease. Worth mentioning at the estimate if you rent.

Small yards and side passages

Narrow side yards between houses are one of our most common small jobs. They get no sun, they hold water, grass has never grown there, and they are usually the muddiest part of the property. Two hundred square feet of turf solves a problem that has been annoying you for years.

What it costs

Small installations carry a higher per-square-foot rate because setup and mobilisation spread across less area. A typical 150 to 300 square foot patio or balcony runs $1,800 to $4,500. Pricing detail.

Answers

Common questions

Can turf be installed over concrete?
Yes, with a drainage layer or foam underlay and perimeter adhesive. The existing surface has to drain properly first — turf hides ponding, it doesn't fix it.
How much weight does it add?
Roughly one to two pounds per square foot with underlay. We supply specifications for rooftop load calculations where needed.
Can I take it with me if I rent?
Balcony and patio turf can be laid loose and cut to fit rather than glued down, which makes it removable. Mention it at the estimate.
